Today I returned online to look further into artist Dave Coleman. I stumbled upon his work yesterday and was struck by his character design. There is so much movement, weight and personality in his drawings.
So I decided to take the plunge and go with my gut feeling to invest in his teaching methodology. I began by watching the first part of “Animal Character design with David Colman” , “01 tiger studies and shape exploration”. In this he breaks down the facial features of a tiger from references and makes some really interesting obeservations of shape that are less obvious. Here is some work in reaction to what I watched.
Feel there is something interesting about this sketch like an essence is captured
Quick form searching in 3D with some of the form philosophy Dave goes through.
Not a fan of this sketch but It definetly made me think about the way I was approaching the drawing.
